We are ambitious in our expectations for all pupils at Parklands Junior School. We are clear that we must support all pupils to make good or better progress in learning in every year group and subject area across the school.
Aiming High is our SLT led provision for more able pupils. The programme includes a visit to University College Oxford each year. 12 Pupils from Year 6 participate in a range of activities at the university accompanied by Mrs Wilson and Mr Stevens. This will include an exciting ‘Meet the Archivist’ session, academic lecture, learning walk and the opportunity to discuss some interesting aspects of the history of University College. The link with University College Oxford will continue throughout the academic year.
University College Student Ambassador Alexandra Wilson will facilitate a programme of workshops, debates and challenging activities in school for more able pupils in each year group. She will also provide mentoring for pupils aiming to study at Oxbridge or other Russell Group universities.
Mrs Wilson and Mr Stevens will work with our Aiming High pupils on a range of projects, partnership work with the university and provide additional teaching to our more able Year 6 pupils.
